Children from all ages all welcome in the Skanzen. We offer various education programmes for them even for disabled children. Following educational programme is available in English:

How did these houses get to the Skanzen? Why were these specific ones chosen? Who used to live in them? How did they function? What are the differences between the regional units?
During a walk through the museum’s regional units, you can gain knowledge of the dwelling houses, outbuildings, churches and belfries. In addition to the questions above we also talk about the lifestyle and religion of the particular region’s inhabitants. The region’s most common everyday objects will be presented. We will get to know equipment that is now only familiar from books. By the end of the tour participants wil have an overall picture of the region. The knowledge gained here will help you to discover the other regional units individually.

How did the division of labour function in a family look like 100 years ago? What were the duties of the parents and the children?
At one of the museum’s croft, in an authentic environment, children can experience a busy weekday of a poor peasant family. During the learning activity the class will inhabit one of the Museum’s croft. By joining the season appropriate work they can learn how hard it was for a family to make a living; as well as experiencing how much responsibility was put on a child through workflow stages. Although family roles have changed a lot in the past hundred years, family division of labour is still as important as it used to be.

What’s the difference between a child’s environment of today and of hundred years ago? How and what did the children play with before computers and smartphones? How did they spend their spare time?
While we observe one of the Museum’s croft, we get to know the lifestyle of the 1900’s children. We search the similarities and the differences between the children’s world of the past and present. We will teach it through motion filled folk sportgames that the time spent together is important for community building and that having fun is not a matter of finances. During the learning activity we will play age appropriate games.

Racka sheep, grey cattle, mangalica pig… just a couple of the Hungarian breed of domestic animals that children can meet during the learning activity.
The class will learn the use of the animals and how to take care of them. Children will get involved in the everyday life of a farm, according to the season and daytime they can help around the livestock or join in agriculture work on our ploughland. They can experience the joy and responsibility of livestock farming as well. Please make sure the children’s clothes are suitable for weather conditions and know that they can get dirty while working with animals.
How to book?
- Booking 10 days in advance is necessary.
- Cancelling 1 week before the programm can be done only by paying 50% of the total price.
- We offer snacks & lunch for children for an additional price, please ask our contact if you would like to book a combination of an educational programm & food.
- Meeting point is, where your workshop takes place. Please note that the museum has 60 hectars, and it takes 10-15 minutes from the entrance building to the place of each workshop. Ask for help at the information desk at arrival if you need it.
