Celebrate St Martin’s Day at the Skanzen with new wines, traditional goose dishes, music and seasonal customs! Meet Hungarian winemakers, enjoy concerts and storytelling, join craft activities and family games, take part in themed wine tastings and round off the day with our lantern procession.
St Martin’s Day traditionally marked the end of the agricultural year, the time to taste the new wine and celebrate together. On 14–15 November, the customs and flavours associated with this special time of year come to life at the Skanzen.
At the Skanzen Vigadó, winemakers present their wines, while throughout the museum visitors can enjoy craft activities, games and traditional programmes. Storytelling, folk music and concerts fill the stage, while goose dishes, roasted chestnuts and other autumn treats bring the flavours of St Martin’s Day to the festival.
This programme is part of the Autumn Festival of Museums, held between 28 September and 15 November 2026.

Two disappearing worlds of rural Hungary meet in this unusual programme: village football and vineyard culture. Abandoned football pitches and overgrown vineyards tell similar stories about changes in rural communities.
Football historian and sports journalist Péter Csillag, creator of the “Hátsó füves” project, presents memorable locations through stories and photographs, while Gergő Fejérvári connects these stories to the people, vineyards and wines of the regions.

Kollabor production
What once seemed like extreme weather has increasingly become part of everyday life. Scorching summers, droughts and sudden heavy rainfall are also putting vineyards to the test.
Together with economic journalist László Csécsi, co-founder of Kollabor and the Da bibere wine team, we explore innovative resistant grape varieties through four examples: Jázmin, Borsmenta, Hibernal and Solaris – and, of course, discover what they can offer in the glass.
12:30 | “Let the sweet Muscat give its fragrance to others…”
It is time to dispel a persistent misconception about Muscat: it is not necessarily – and in fact is often not – sweet. Fragrant, charming and aromatic? That is another matter.
Who better to guide us through the subject than Hungarian poet Mihály Csokonai Vitéz? A sip of wine, a line of poetry – the perfect Skanzen blend.
14:30 | Harvest – birth or death?
Harvest still carries a special, almost sacred significance. It is both celebration and farewell, an ending and a new beginning.
From Árpád Sárosi and János Garay to Mihály Csokonai Vitéz, Mihály Babits, Sándor Petőfi and Endre Ady, many Hungarian poets have written about the harvest. Poetry and wine come together in this special tasting.

After completing all five stations and collecting the points, participants can pick up their gift at the House from Hajdúbagos (VI-4), at the glass counter in the Skanzen Vigadó or at the Information Desk.

A workshop connected to the exhibition “Palóc Soup – Where Ethnography Meets Graphic Design”.
The activities are led by Anita Székely and Eszter Fazakas, graphic design students at Budapest Metropolitan University.
Collage is an artistic technique that requires no previous experience. Using scissors and glue, participants can transform magazines and discarded printed materials into creative artworks in a short time.
Visitors can choose from two activities:
1. Impossible Self-Portrait
Use cut-out and torn magazine fragments, colours, shapes and letters to show who you are right now. Browse through the magazines and instinctively select the images and colours that catch your eye, then combine them into a personal composition.
2. Fiction Vacation
Use cut-out elements to create a scene that could never happen in reality – perhaps a whale floating through the sky or a city growing out of a cup of coffee. The stranger the combination, the better!
