Hussars day (15 March)

A journey to the Hungarian Revolution of 1848

In 1848, Hungary, part of the Habsburg Monarchy, began a war of independence against the Austrian Empire. The anniversary of the outbreak of the revolution, the 15th of March, is one of Hungary's three national holidays. Every year on this day, numerous events take place throughout the country. In the Hungarian Open Air Museum, we focus on the traditions of the "Hussars", the Hungarian cavalrymen who fought in the War of Independence, with demonstrations, games and workshops.
