Indestructible Objects
The first exhibition of this year’s series of programs organized under the Green Skanzen initiative is titled “Indestructible Objects: Everyday Objects and Fine Art.”
Indestructible Objects – Everyday Objects and Fine Art
Skanzen Gallery, April – October 2026
Exhibition curators: Dr. Zsolt Sári and Szilveszter Áhij Jenei
Visitors can see how a worn-out object can be repurposed – and even become a medium for artistic expression.
The exhibition’s main message is that every object can live on: in the Skanzen ethnographic collection, visitors can view reference objects that demonstrate how this is possible. A worn-out scythe blade continues its life as a knife; a utilitarian tool takes on a new function and new meaning. And the “patience bottles” demonstrate the tradition of creatively reinterpreting objects, almost as works of art.
The main venue for the exhibition is the Skanzen Gallery, but starting from the entrance building, exhibition items are also displayed as part of the interiors in residential houses representing various regions:
